Dahlonega

Welcome to Dahlonega, Georgia! At the north end of Georgia’s Hospitality Highway and in the heart of Georgia’s Wine County is Dahlonega, long credited as the site of the first Gold Rush in America.

The phrase, “there’s gold in them thar hills!" was, pardon the expression, coined in Dahlonega. A visit to the Consolidated Gold Mines gives visitors a glimpse of life as a gold miner and Crisson Gold Mines has a working stamp mill. The Smith House has a real mine in their restaurant and the Gold Museum is the jewel of downtown, which has quite a few interesting shops, galleries, and restaurants.

Make sure to stop by the Fudge Factory! There are five distinct and inviting wineries close to town. Dahlonega has evolved into a center for the performing and visual arts. The downtown square is alive at night at both the Crimson Moon and at the Holly Theatre. Recreational activities include horseback riding, hiking, paddling and tubing, cycling and golfing. The local university boasts the George E Coleman Planetarium with free star shows. Dahlonega has a number of annual events that focus on the arts, music, heritage and culture of the area.
